Ans. The region of stratosphere where in which  ozone is present in high concentration is called ozonosphere or ozone layer. It is also called ozone shield  this is because it protects the living beings on earth from harmfull effects such of ultraviolet radiation emerging from the sun, Lowering of the concentration of ozone make this layer unable to prevent the ultraviolet radiation from coming to the earth. This is called ozone depletion. The chemical responsible for lowering the concentration of the ozone instratosphere or the ozone layers are collectively  known as the ozone depleting substances  (ODS), Major ODS are CFC, halons, N,O, CH4, chlorine, carbon tetra chloride, methyl bromide etc,
