The carbohydrates which cannot be further hydrolysis into the simpler molecules are called Monosaccharides their general formula of monosaccharide is (CH2 O)n Where ,n= 3 ,to 7 these are two types : aldose (— CHO groups present ) ketose (ketone group present )
Question :What are the reducing sugar ?
The reducing are those sugars which act as reducing agent are called reducing sugars they contain an aldehyde (—CHO ) are or ketone ( C= O group ) a monosaccharides and disaccharide ( except sucrose) are the reducing sugar .
For example of : glucose, fructose, lactose, etc. they reduce Fehling solutions and tollen reagents .
